About the Author
Ralph P. Martin (1925-2013) was Distinguished Scholar in Residence at Fuller Theological Seminary and a New Testament Editor for the Word Biblical Commentary series. He earned the BA and MA from the University of Manchester, England, and the PhD from King's College, University of London. He was the author of numerous studies and commentaries on the New Testament, including Worship in the Early Church, the volume on Philippians in The Tyndale New Testament Commentary series. He also wrote 2 Corinthians and James in the WBC series.
Lynn Allan Losie is Associate Professor of New Testament at Azusa Pacific University. A generalist in New Testament studies, Dr. Losie teaches courses in the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, and the Pauline Epistles, as well as in the background areas of Greek, early Judaism, and the greater Hellenistic World. He has published articles on the New Testament and had served as the associate New Testament editor of the Word Biblical Commentary (1997 - 2013). Ordained as a Baptist minister, he has also served in pastoral ministry in Southern California and Oregon.

Word Biblical Commentary: Pastoral Epistles

I had heard that this book was extremely good, and now that I have actually gotten to read some of it, I must agree wholeheartedly! Not only does Mounce go into incredible detail in discussing the Greek of the Pastoral Epistles, he shows the reader the various viewpoints regarding controversial passages as well as listing the strengths and weaknesses of each. One can tell that his research is exhaustive and accurate. Although the sheer amount of information can be daunting (I won't be able to read if cover to cover for quite a while), this book can be a great asset to a Bible student, whether he is writing a paper or simply studying the Word of God.

1 & 2 Timothy commentary

I chose the highest rating because of his methodology. Dr. Mounce does a great job of interacting with what other have said about the passage. He covers the text thoroughly and exegetically. I particularly found his attention to detail to be helpful. I would recommend this commentary to any Professor or Pastor.

Mounce's Commentary on the Pastorals

This commentary is well written and easy to read. Even the introduction is extremely indepth, but all of the information is interesting and useful; it's not a bunch of scholarly drivel. Knowing/understanding Koine Greek and it's usage makes reading this commentary a little easier. Overall Mounce has done a fantastic job.
